William Shatner Talks SHATNER’S WORLD, 50 Years of Star Trek & More

William Shatner is coming to The Bushnell with his one man show SHATNER’S WORLD: WE JUST LIVE IN IT this October, and he shared a preview of what to expect at the show, his thoughts on Star Trek’s big anniversary, and lots more.

The smash Broadway show SHATNER’S WORLD: WE JUST LIVE IN IT is coming to the Bushnell on Saturday, October 15th.  Proceeds from the performance will benefit the fight against Breast Cancer through the Hartford Heathcare Cancer Institute at Hartford Hospital.  Shatner is no strange to charity, though, as he’s been involved with the Hollywood Charity Horse Show for 30 years now.

Shatner has had a storied career as an actor, with an incredible number of roles from the 1950s to today, and he’s internationally recognized.  Seriously– the strangest place somebody recognized him was certainly unexpected. “I was beside the Caspian Sea, on the border of Iran… a guy in a big bear hat and a strange uniform approached me,” he recalled.  “He had a sword, I thought he was going to cleave me… but he said ‘Captain Kirk?’ It was very bizarre.”

Captain Kirk is still Shatner’s most iconic role, and he has both fond memories and a genuine appreciation for the character and all things Star Trek… especially this year, on the Golden Anniversary of the beloved sci-fi show.  “It’s a phenomenon that has never been repeated. I was in a show 50 years ago… I recently completed a special that was going to be on 50 years of Star Trek, but evolved into talking to astrophysicists who talked a great deal about time, the passage of time, and spacetime,” he said.  “I’m here to testify that 50 years can go by in a twinkling. Time is a very strange and precious commodity.  That 50 years of Star Trek, I don’t get tired of it… I’ve always recognized that because of Captain Kirk, I’m here today.”

SHATNER’S WORLD: WE JUST LIVE IN IT will feature more of Shatner’s most entertaining stories, insights, comedy, and music… all for a good cause.  In his own words, Shatner made a promise to everyone who ‘beams up’ for the show at The Bushnell.  “I’ll make you laugh, I’ll make you cry, we’ll have an experience together.”
