Most diets are actually not set up for long-term success or maintenance. 70% of the American population is presently overweight, and there’s some things to look out for if you want to drop the weight AND keep it off.
95% of people lose weight and then immediately gain it back, so here’s some ways to get healthy and stay that way.
1. Don’t Look For the “Miracle Diet”
If a diet promises to help you lose a lot of weight fast, it won’t work. What you will lose is lean mass, muscle and water… but then you leave your body in a position to gain that weight back.
2. Don’t Do Overly Restrictive Diets
If a diet is set up with foods you don’t typically eat– or if it’s drastically different than what you can do in a sustainable long period of time, don’t do it. This includes fads like cleanses, as well. These will not give you a real diet plan that you can keep up with long-term.
3. Avoid Fad Diets
Right now, the big things are cleanses, eating clay, going Vegan for a short timeframe… the problem with these is they are all nutrient-deficient diets which can cause a lot of other issues. Plus, people who claim success off these diets are likely working with their doctors on other areas of health at the same time.
4. It’s all about Calories
Did you know back in the 1900s, we consumed 800 less calories per day? Get rid of processed foods which cause cravings and addictions in your brain. Plus, you need to movie, stay active, think about why you’re over eating and come up with a plan that’s flexible and realistic. Your ideas about how to truly lose weight might have to change, but it will be for the better in the long run.
