Don’t Plan Too Far Ahead
If you’re newly dating, don’t plan a vacation that’s way too far in the future. A lot of couples stay together longer just so they can reach that pre-planned vacation, and the trip ends up being a nightmare because everything has been dragged out too long.
Plan to Pay Your Own Way
If you’re in a happy relationship together, you should always assume you’re going to pay your own way. You need to communicate and be open about who is paying for what, without guessing, which can lead to an awkward and uncomfortable situation.
Pack Your Own Bags
For married couples, don’t ever pack for your spouse. There is no better way to get into a vacation fight that by accidentally packing the wrong clothes and supplies for someone you’re traveling with.
Don’t be Off-Put By “Vacation Mode” Behavior
When people travel, and sometimes their behavior is different than usual– they may drink more, eat more junk and blow more money that they otherwise would. Realize this– don’t be alarmed if they seem really different… they’re in “vacation mode,” and it’s not always a telling sign of their real-life behavior.
Don’t Rush into a Follow-Up Vacation
Don’t start planning your next trip too soon– get over the hype and fun of the trip and back to reality before you jump into planning the next vacation.
