If you’re anything like me, you can open up your purse right now and find something from Burt’s Bees. There’s certainly no reason for you or your kids to steer clear of the popular lip balm line, right?

There is a bizarre story going around the web is that putting the lip balm on your eyelids — called Beezin — will enhance any drunk or high feeling. While that part is likely another internet hoax, that doesn’t mean this is something parents should ignore.

What kids may feel isn’t any sort of high, but instead just a burning sensation from the peppermint oil in the lip balm. And that burning could lead to pin eye-like symptoms, Dr. Brett Cauthen told WKRC-TV.

“The peppermint oil in the lip balm is a very strong irritant and can cause inflammation in the eye, redness of the eye, swelling,” Cauthen said.

Just make sure next time one of your kids grabs that lip balm before they leave the house that they know to USE AS DIRECTED and DON’T BE STUPID!
