Fit-inista Carolyn Phillips– our on air personal trainer– is back with more tips to get you in shape and what you need to do to stay that way!
We eat so many processed foods that many of us are lacking in some vital nutrients our bodies need. But that’s not all– high protein diets can also cut out lots of nutrients very important to our health and our bodies. Carolyn runs down what we need, that we might not be getting.
1. Vitamin C
About one out of four people have Vitamin C deficiency. It’s responsible for collagen repair, iron absorption and immunity.
This goes hand in hand with calcium absorption. Almost 45% of Americans have Magnesium deficiency, and this nutrient is involved in over 300 metabolic reactions, so it’s very important. It’s found in fruits, nuts, vegetables, beans, lentils and whole grains.
Men should have about 38 grams, women 25 grams… Less than half get that amount of fiber. Google these nutrients, and you can easily find out what foods will help you get where you need to be.
4. Vitamin E
This important antioxidant fends off free radicals and is important for the immune system and blood vessels. 60% of Americans don’t get enough of this nutrient.
5. Vitamin D
The most deficient nutrient we’re lacking is one o0f the easiest to get– Vitamin D. You get this from sunlight, from what should be 15 minutes a day in the sun. 70% of Americans do not get enough Vitamin D, so go outside and soak up the sun!
