Gadgets, apps and plenty of other shiny things you probably don’t need– Cellular Chloe is here to share the latest and greatest wireless wonders!
These days, you can use you smart phone or mobile device for everything… so why not use it to pay for things? Many apps and other mobile features are now actually more safe and secure than traditional payment methods, and Chloe has a run down of some of the best.
If you keep this stuff on your phone and keep it password-protected, no one can get into it. For example, Chloe just signed up for Isis, and when she switched phones, she had to re-activate the account. Yes, it was one extra hoop to jump through, but it comes with total peace of mind that your information can stay out of the wrong hands.
You can pay all over the place with this app. It’s a feature called “NFC” (that’s Near Field Communication), where you can use a terminal to scan and pay for something straight from your phone. They work with American Express, Wells Fargo and Chase, and even if you don’t have an account at any of those places you can sign up and get a plastic serve card which can be fed with any other card or a direct deposit.
Isis has some great offers right now to motivate people to sign up– There’s a $20 one-time credit being offered for Wells Fargo users who join now, plus 20% off all purchases until 4/30/2014. AmEx users on Isis can get a dollar back on all purchases over $1 using Isis, up to $50 per month. And if you’re using Isis on its own, you can refer a friend to join and you both get $10!
Dunkin Donuts launched a new QR code system called DD Perks, which allows you to scan the code to pay for your coffee. You get a free Medium Coffee when you sign up, another free coffee on your birthday, the ability to earn points with every purchase and special offers for members only.
The SmartPay program at Cumberland Farms lets you use a mobile app or card to purchase your gas at any Cumberland Farms station. It will score you 10 cents off a gallon of gas, all the time, which is a great savings!
