Kings of Leon and Philadelphia’s signature cheesesteaks: two great tastes that taste great together!
The members of Kings of Leon might be good ol’ Southern boys from Tennessee, but they know a good Philly cheesesteak when they taste one. This is why the band recently hosted its third annual KOL Philly Cheesesteak Invitational during a tour stop in the land of Eagles, Flyers and cheesesteak sandwiches.
This year’s cheesesteak invitational is captured on the latest edition of “NachoVision,” a popular outlet for all things Kings of Leon that’s run by Christopher “Nacho” Followill, a cousin of the boys in the band who also serves as KOL’s main tour tech.
The highly entertaining YouTube video features some of the city’s most famous cheesesteak emporiums feeding Kings of Leon in hopes to come out the victor. Cue the Rocky theme, “Gonna Fly Now,” which yes, is played throughout this video.
Band members and crew alike eagerly dive into the various cheesesteaks, ranking each one on a scale of 1 to 10 in a blind taste test. Drummer Jared Followill is especially engaged.
After crunching the numbers, the clear winner of this year’s invitational was Jim’s Steaks on South Street, edging out last year’s champ Geno’s Steaks, which came in second and Pat’s King of Steaks, who finished in third.
