Fit-inista Carolyn Phillips– our on air personal trainer– is back with more tips to get you in shape and what you need to do to stay that way!

Fruits and Vegetables are very important for a healthy diet– there are actually 6 different colors for fruits and veggies and they all do something different.   You need to diversity so you can get different antioxidants for different health purposes.  Get the details!

1.  White

This is cauliflower and garlic.  Garlic can help build the immune system, so be sure to get lots of whites now, during Flu season.

2.  Red

Red improves your heart and blood health.  This color group include apples, tomatoes, peppers and more.

3.  Orange

Orange prevents cancers, and includes carrots, pumpkins, squash, catalope and oranges (duh).

4.  Green

Green fruits and veggies purify and detoxify.  There’s tons of options for greens, from lettuces and spinach to green beans and any other emerald-tinted veggies.

5.  Yellow

Bananas, squash and lemons are all part of this group.

6.  Purple

Purple produce increases longevity, and includes eggplant, blueberries and grapes.

You don’t want to get stuck in just one color, so be sure you get all six colors when you go grocery shopping– it’s a healthier way to “taste the rainbow!”
