Coming up through Nickelodeon, Ariana Grande is used to smiling through anything, but she’s still not very comfortable with so many cameras around. But she’s a trooper, so she shared some insight on what she’s up to with Gina J and Damon backstage at the GRAMMYs.
Ariana made a splash with her debut album Yours Truly, but she’s not slowing down anytime soon.
“I’m working on a second album, I’ve been working with a lot of the same producers that I did my first album with, but I’ve also been working with Ryan [Tedder]… It’s been an amazing experience,” she stated. “We’ve only been at for a week and a half, but everything’s falling into place so easily.”
Tedder has called Ariana “the next Mariah Carey,” a big compliment that she appreciates and takes seriously. Like her predecessor, Ariana is focused on expanding her horizons as much as she can as an artist. “I’m very excited about the new music,” she said. “I’m challenging myself, trying different sounds, singing in different registers with my voice, and I’m excited to see the outcome.”
With another album on the way, it’s possible that next year Ariana will be back at the GRAMMYs up for an award of her own. But the singer-actress is too modest to say that’s the plan for sure. “I don’t know, I wouldn’t count on it,” she said candidly. “It’s been a goal since I was a little girl, so one day, maybe.”
