It’s a pretty low key week to kick off 2014, but there’s some choice new movies you may have missed to enjoy on home video… Get all the latest releases from our resident movie expert, Sam Hatch!

Runner Runner

Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake star in this movie about a guy swindled by online poker, who ends up in Costa Rica to confront the guy who ripped him off.  But his would-be antagonist convinces him to work for him instead… but things don’t go too well.

Closed Circuit

This movie doesn’t feature Johnny 5 (that was Short Circuit)… it’s about a bunch of lawyers who have top secret government knowledge and secret classified evidence that gets them in trouble.  It stars Eric Bana and Rebecca Hall.

From Pedro Almodovar, one of the most beloved filmmakers ever (he discovered Antonio Banderas), comes this story about an airplane heading to Mexico City, and its landing gear is stuck.  The flight attendants decide to do lots of wacky stuff to distract the passengers from the fact that they could all be near death.

Starring Mark Ruffalo and Tim Robbins, this drama-comedy stars the pair as sex addicts.

Inequality For All

Want something to stress you out, or at least get you thinking?  This new documentary from Bill Clinton Cabinet member Robert Reich, we look at how poor people these days are really, really poor… and the wealthy people are really, really wealthy.

Act of Killing

Everybody is loving this documentary about genocidal death squad retirees, who the filmmakers have re-enact their killings in musical numbers and other movie genres.  It’s totally worth seeing, especially as the buzz keeps growing.

Birth of the Living Dead

Horror nerds should love this movie talking about George A. Romero, the godfather of the zombie movie genre, made his Night of the Living Dead series a reality.

Badges of Fury

Jet Li plays a cop trying to stop a serial killer in this new action film.
