Carolyn Phillips Talks National Cancer Awareness Month

Fit-inista Carolyn Phillips– our on air personal trainer– is back with more tips to get you in shape and what you need to do to stay that way!

October is National Cancer Awareness Month, and Carolyn has three areas to discuss to support this cause– Exercise, events and shopping for the cure.  Get all the details here!

1. Exercise

There’s a great program called MovingForLife.org, specifically designed for cancer recovery.  This program helps reduce swelling and fatigue, and also provides community dialogue and resource to patients recovering from cancer.  Many times, cancer patients can be sedentary, and if they have something to do, they move past that much faster.  Find more info at MovingForLife.org.

2. Shopping

Women love pink, and there’s a great site called Self.com, which features about 48 items in their breast cancer awareness line.  These include hot pink sneakers, yoga mats, shorts, hoodies… a lot of fitness items that are all really cool, they’re stylish and they help the cause.

3. Events

There are a lot of different events, but when it comes to fitness or walking, there’s a nice one on October 20th at Bushnell Park, put on by Making Strides of Hartford.  This event is a 5k walk to benefit cancer, and it’s a great way to participate and be healthy at the same time.

There’s lots more ways to contribute to help, and remember– October is the month to be aware!
