In preparation for her self-titled fifth studio album due out November 5th, Avril Lavigne recently unveiled the video for her latest single, “Rock N Roll”—and it doesn’t disappoint! Featuring a bear/shark, a fighting lobster, and some familiar faces, Avril fights to save rock ‘n roll in one of the most bizarrely entertaining videos of the year.
“The video for [‘Rock N Roll’] is something different for me,” Avril told Gina when she called 96.5 TIC. “In the video I am saving rock and roll. I am the heroine!”
Chris Marrs Piliero –who also directed music videos by Britney Spears, Ke$ha, and The Black Keys– lent his vision to the comic book influenced video, which looks like it could have come straight from the Syfy channel. “[There] was a full-on script,” said Avril. “It’s like a little mini movie!”
Co-stars include Titanic’s Billy Zane, who rides a rocket ship Segway, and The Wonder Years’ Danica McKellar, who shares a kiss with Avril after a drunk-driving dog crashes their car.
“I have my first on screen kiss with a girl,” recalled Avril. “[Danica] is so sweet, she is such a sweetheart. We had fun!”
Like “Rock N Roll,” fans can expect up-tempo tracks on Avril’s upcoming album as well as a few surprises mixed in. A brand new team of writers helped her pen her latest project, including former Evanescence member David Hodges, and Nickelback frontman, Chad Kroeger. “The three of us formed what we called a tripod,” she joked.
Working on the album ultimately sparked the relationship between Avril and Chad– the two of them tied the knot in the south of France last July.
“We worked together on a bunch of the songs,” she explained. “That is how we met. We got together in the studio and started writing some songs… We ended up dating, and he proposed in the studio which was really romantic.”
What’s Avril’s favorite song the two collaborated on?
“We have a second duet that we didn’t put on this record—it’s a love song, and we played it at our wedding for our guests. I would love to release it eventually. I am definitely planning on it!”
