Justin Timberlake is still floating high on the reception of his VMA performance last night (August 25) and being presented the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. So, what better way to thank fans than releasing an inside look at what it was like in the studio recording his new record, The 20/20 Experience Pt. 2?
“We’ve never done it like this. We usually take our time and I felt like it would drive the creativity in a different way,” he said in the two-minute clip as he explained why he decided to spend 20 days in the studio. “I feel like we had to sprint every day and it would hyper focus us.” Watch below.
Timberlake then talked about when he first called Timbaland about the project. Timbaland wanted to know if he wanted to do an album, but JT wasn’t quite sure.
“That’s not really my expectation. I just want to go and go and go and see what we come up with,” he said. “If you’re lucky enough to have the ability to wait and do it when it inspires you then you owe it to yourself to do it when it’s the only thing you can think about. When you wake up in the middle of the night thinking about it. That sense of desperation, that’s what brings out passion. And really, passion to me is all that matters.”
