Fit-inista Carolyn Phillips– our on air personal trainer– is back with more tips to get you in shape and what you need to do to stay that way!

Carolyn Phillips had some July 4th tips in her “eat This, Not That” segment, and while the fireworks may be behind us, there’s lots of tips that will help keep you fit and healthy all summer long!

1.  Use a calories counter

If you saw how many calories you were eating at the BBQ, you might be devastated.

2.  Burgers

3.5 ounces of a lean burger versus a fat burger is a BIG difference on the calories– 150 calories for the lean versus 300 for the fat!  If you’re at someone else’s cookout, and they’re serving fattier meat, you can always bring your own burgers, or a veggie burger or turkey burger.

3. Salads

Regular salad dressings are very high in fat and calories– up to 100 calories for a tablespoon.  If you go with an olive oil based dressing, balsamic and some herbs.

4.  Side Dishes

Skip the cole slaw, and go for the grilled vegetables.  You’re going to get hit with 300 calories for cole slaw, but only 100 calories for two cups of grilled veggies.

5.  Dessert

Don’t deny– modify!  For example, one of everyone’s favorites is strawberry shortcake, and you can still enjoy it, just cut some of the bad stuff in half first, to limit your caloric intake.  You can also opt for a classic summertime dessert like watermelon, instead, too!
