I can’t believe my baby is graduating from elementary school today!
It was only yesterday (OK, it was 2008) that he graduated Kindergarten. I know, I know, he’s not graduating college yet… YET! But it feels like he is. I just can’t get over how fast the time is going by.
The old saying, “The days are long but the years are short” couldn’t be any truer right now. These are the days, the moments the pauses in time that we — and our children — will remember most as we reflect on our family journey years from now. But it’s not just these moments that count. It’s the little things, the hand-made mother’s day cards they brought home, their first book report, and when they came home beaming after realizing they CAN do the monkey bars all the way across.
All these moments are highlighted in my mind with a sparkling ray of sunshine illuminating each one. The moments are in slow motion, a sepia-tone projector film moving at half speed. Don’t you wish you could just slow life down like that half-speed projector in your mind sometimes?
Well, we can… IF we just choose to put down our smartphones and be in the moments so we don’t miss them while trying to record them. Yes, get the picture, grab a snippet of video. Then sit back, and take it all in, because before you know it, the moments will have turned into years and your baby will be holding his own child in his arms.
Congratulations graduates of all ages and here’s to the moms and dads who are crying happy tears today watching their babies grow.
