Fit-inista Carolyn Phillips– our on air personal trainer– is back with more tips to get you in shape and what you need to do to stay that way!

You can burn a lot of calories by simply adjusting a few lifestyle habits at home, so check out Carolyn’s 5 tips and you’ll be on your way to a slimmer home!

1. Have weights available by the TV

Put some weights by the remote control, and visually it will remind you to get up.  Try doing some curls during the commercials and you can burn calories without missing your favorite show!

2. Dim the lights

Studies show that if you have lower lights and mellow music in the background while eating, you will calm down and eat less.

3. Take a stand

The average person gains about a pound a year starting at the age of 25.  If you can create more standing and moving environments, you will burn about 40 more calories a day.  The key is that people are putting on weight because they are becoming less and less active and consuming more calories. You have to find ways to build it in.

4. Chill out– Adjust that thermostat

Recent studies have shown that when you have colder temperatures for about three hours, you burn extra calories. Your body has to go into overdrive to heat itself up to 98 degrees, and it does this by burning calories.

5. Portion Control

Research shows that if you get a smaller plate, you will eat less. The other thing that’s interesting is studies have shown if you eat on a white plate, you’re more likely to eat more food.  So add some color to your dinnerware– it will help emote feelings and establish a better environment, which can help you stay calm and eat smaller portions.
