There are more than a few parallels between stalwart modern punk bands Green Day and Blink-182. Both are power trios who rose to prominence in the 1990s on the back of catchy and infectious pop-punk anthems that galvanized a generation of diehard alt-rock fans who still pack concert halls whenever their heroes go on tour.

During a recent interview with CBS Local, Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 addressed Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong’s recent onstage tirade at a radio music festival, prompting the singer to check himself into rehab right in the middle of the band’s extensive promotional activities surrounding the release of three new albums, ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré!.

“I don’t know exactly what’s going on. I saw what happened onstage, and then I saw the announcement like two days later or whatever it was that he was checking himself in to get help,” Hoppus said when asked about the Green Day situation. “I think that’s great if it’s what he needs, and I wish them all the best. They’re an amazing band and really cool guys, and I hope that all is good in their world.

“Other than what I’ve heard in the news, I don’t know enough,” Hoppus continued, sounding genuinely concerned. “I hope that Billie’s good, I hope that the band is in a good place and I wish them nothing but health and success for sure.”

Hoppus and Blink-182 are currently in the initial stages of writing a new album, which the band plans to start recording early next year after a highly anticipated tour of Australia.

While Green Day cool their jets as Armstrong gets well, the band is currently satiating fans by pushing up the release date of ¡Dos!, the second of the three albums, from January 15, 2012, to November 13 of this year. ¡Tré! will now come out on December 7.

Green Day has also just released a new video for the song “Stray Heart,” a single taken from ¡Dos!.
