The Killers Go Behind-The-Scenes For “Miss Atomic Bomb” Video
Shot while on tour in the UK, “Miss Atomic Bomb” is the latest video from Battle Born. The video follows The Killers through weeks of touring with the final edit summing together fairly interesting behind-the-scenes shots.
Frontman Brandon Flowers is seen greeting fans and practicing backstage with his sometimes shirtless bandmates. One of the most impressive slow-mo scenes in the video is shot from the band’s vantage point, looking into an audience of tens of thousands, waving their arms in synchronicity. It gives you a sense of just how big this band is around the world.
It’s likely that Flowers was inspired by the real Miss Atomic Bomb, a name given to Lee Merlin. Martin was a model and Las Vegas Copa Girl working at the Sands Hotel. According to the Conelrad Newswire, in 1957, photographer Don English was assigned by the Las Vegas News Bureau to take a picture outside the Sands Hotel in connection with an above ground atomic test. Martin, his model, was adorned with a cardboard cutout of an atomic mushroom cloud. Over time, Martin’s image and likeness, Miss Atomic Bomb, became part of Las Vegas’ storied history, of which Flowers has drawn heavily upon for the group’s latest album, the Nevada-centric Battle Born.
The Killers are currently on tour with Tegan & Sara in support of their latest album Battle Born, available now via Island Records.
