Faith Evans‘ voice propelled her to the top echelon of R&B well before TV competition shows became the new pathway to stardom. With the singing showdowns heating up, she explained were she would fit in today’s battle-heavy programming.

“I could totally see myself as a judge on one of the reality shows,” she told CBS Local. “Out of the three—American Idol, X-Factor and The Voice—I think [I would choose] The Voice, if I had a choice, of course, if they were all waiting for me.”

It is the idea of raw vocal ability that appeals to Evans.

“I like the concept of it all being about the talent,” she said. “On the other side, as an artist or up-and-comer, it is my talent that got me this far. That’s a great thing that they did about that show that makes it differ. It is about the voice.” [See video below]

On Wednesday, the Voice coaches–Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton and Adam Levinesolidified their final picks for the singing competition show, now in its third season. While she would be happy to be a judge on the show, Faith also knows who she would pick if she was an upstart auditioning for Voice coaches.

“I would say Cee Lo Green,” she said. “What I like about him as an artist, he’s able to cross genres. He’s a soul child a product of soul music and all of that. But he pays attention.”

Faith, who helped define the ’90s era R&B, has some heavy experience with coaching and managing big voices. She is fresh off the release of her R&B Divas album, which serves as the soundtrack for her popular reality show of the same name.

“I like to liken it to Waiting To Exhale,” she told CBS Local. “It’s almost the soundtrack to the triumphs of what you know of the show and beyond seeing the show…When we got in the studio not only did we sound good together but it was actually a lot of fun and it was drama free.”
