One Direction Settles Lawsuit Over Name

The winner of One Direction vs. One Direction is… One Direction.

The U.K. band that is.

Earlier this year, an American band of the same name sued The X-Factor stars for one million dollars in damages and demanded that they stop performing in the U.S. as “One Direction.”

The punk rockers from California claimed to have trademarked the name in 2009, one year before Simon Cowell put together the U.K. boy band on The X-Factor in 2010.  Cowell countersued the American One Direction claiming they were trying to cash in on his band’s recent global success.

After allegedly receiving hate mail and death threats, the American band settled with its British counterpart and will now perform under the name Uncharted Shores.
