After sitting on “the couch” for 15 years, Today Show co-host Ann Curry, finally said her “goodbyes” to all Today show viewers. She left by saying “I’m sorry I couldn’t carry the ball over the finish line, but man did I try.” Watch her “farewell” speech inside….
Now you may have heard rumors going back and forth the past few months about Lauer not being happy with Curry, and making statements suggesting that if Curry gets a new contact and comes back, he will not. But that was the least of Ann Curry or NBC’s worries!
As expected we all knew and know that this decision more so had to do with her contract and money situation. According to TMZ.com, Curry was guaranteed $20 million over the last 2 years of her contract, but because NBC did not want to pay that, they worked out a lesser deal will she would still work on the Today show but just not get as much as $20 million. Looks like Curry was actually getting just about $10 million over the past 2 years.
During an interview when asked about the Today show ratings partially being her doing, Curry quickly responded with “No.” Curry will still be working with NBC and will continue to produce for “NBC Nightly News” “Dateline” and “Rock Center” along side filling in as an anchor for “NBC Nightly News.”
Savannah Guhtrie will be Ann Curry’s replacement and Matt Lauer’s newest co-anchor. NBC did this move because they wanted Guthrie locked and in place in time for the Olympics when they start.
