Gina started her interview in the best way possible– by almost falling into a bush next to the broadcast tent! Jermaine is flexible enough that he’s pretty sure he’d be able to catch her if need be… but would he pick up Christina Aguilera?
“I’m a gentleman first. If a lady’s falling, I’d give her a hand, that’s the kind of guy I am.”
There was quite a bit of controversy over Xtina butting heads with Adam Levine this season, but as far as Jermaine is concerned, the rivalry stayed on the judge’s side of the equation. “They’re coaches, that’s what they do. We’re on the other side as contestants, trying to give the best performance every night. I’m gonna let them do whatever they’re doing.”
Blake Shelton helped keep Jermaine away from the craziness backstage, and avoiding the drama could have been what gave him the edge. But while Jermaine was happy with his choice of judge, the way he picked Shelton wasn’t very orthodox– the contestant was turned off by Cee-Lo’s glasses! “Cee-Lo had the dark shades, and I was really looking for a connection. This wasn’t just a game show for me this was real life,” he recalled. “I was not trying to get up there to do the best television show ever, I was trying to do the best for my career.”
Before The Voice win, Jermaine had definitely put in hi share of work, singing background vocals for Alicia Keys for eight years, and he’s been taking notes all along. “I’m planning on using the things I’ve learned with my own career,” he hinted.
Jermaine has a new single coming out on Father’s Day, and while it’s a cover he’s sending it out to Fathers and Daughters everywhere. But before that, he’s performing tonight at the All-Star Spring Fling! Check out all our Spring Fling coverage for more of Jermaine Paul!
