Javier Colon has had a lot going on since winning season one of The Voice last Spring, and the West Hartford native’s next gig will be right here on his home turf, performing at our All-Star Spring Fling concert tomorrow night at Six Flags New England. Javier stopped by to talk about playing some high-profile venues, his new album, and play some music for us!
Spring Fling will be a surreal experience for Javier… he used to visit Six Flags New England as a child, and he never dreamed of performing there on stage. “Last time I was there, I went to a Boys 2 Men concert back in, like ’94. It’s gonna be awesome to be on the other side of it,” he recalled.
Equally surreal is the idea that now someone in the audience may see Javier tomorrow night, and– just like when he saw Boys 2 Men– be inspired to win their own singing competition! “That’s the circle of the music business,” he quipped.
Last time he came by, Javier was on The Voice tour. In the year since then, things haven’t been exactly how Javier expected them to be, but it’s still been an amazing experience, touring, releasing his new album “Come Through For You” and landing a performance at probably the most prestigious venue imaginable– the White House! “I’m in the best place of my life… I get to perform on the White House lawn on July 4th, with the National Symphony Orchestra.”
Javier didn’t come alone to the studio… he brought his guitar along, so Christine ambushed him with a quick challenge– she wanted to see what Javier would do for a cover of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe,” and he spun a whole new take of the tune right on the spot!
Javier also performed a live version of his new single “A Drop in the Ocean” for us, and he absolutely nailed it, especially first thing in the morning!
