With Mother’s Day fast approaching (Sunday!), we compiled a list of the Toughest Movie Moms. These moms have battled through it all, from raising kids, to divorces, even saving the world.
Feel free to comment and add any one that we may have missed.
Happy Mothers Day!
Helen Parr (Mrs. Incredible/Elastigirl)
Starring in the hit Disney movie, The Incredibles, Helen Parr has to deal with raising three super hero children and a husband still wanting to relive his glory days. Aside from family life, Mrs. Incredible has to save the world from evil villains.
Molly Weasley – Harry Potter
A housewife and a hero. Mrs. Weasley the mother of seven children, and also has helped her son’s friends Harry and Hermione through all of their troubles. She also participated in the final battle with Voldemort, where she uttered the immortal words “Not my daughter you b*tch”
Uma Thurman – Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2 – The Bride
Moms don’t get any tougher than The Bride (Uma Thurman) who goes on a revenge-fueled mission to take down her former fellow assassins, and rescue her daughter from her jilted ex-lover (and Natural Born Killer) Bill. The Kill Bill movies are known for their classic Quentin Tarantino mayhem and violence, but by the end of the second film as Uma’s Beatrix is finally reunited with her long lost daughter, the reunion is totally earned, leading to the fantastic closing line: “The lioness has rejoined her cub, and all is right in the jungle.”
Julianne Moore - Telly Paretta
Everyone thinks Julianna Moore is crazy when she claims someone abducted her child. But a mother’s will helps her to stunning conclusion.
Angelina Jolie – Changeling

A grief-stricken mother takes on the LAPD to her own detriment when it stubbornly tries to pass off an obvious impostor as her missing child, while also refusing to give up hope that she will find him one day.
Nicole Kidman – The Others
Nicole Kidman portrays a mother protecting her family from evil forces in The Others.
Ellen Ripley – Aliens

OK, ok, we’ll admit it– Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley wasn’t a biological mom to the adorable waif Newt, but the Alien-fighter certainly took the little girl under her wing and managed to get her out of the nightmarish Alien colony in one piece. And of course Newt’s endangerment at the hands of the terrifying Alien Queen inspires Ripley’s most iconic line as she declares to the monster “Get away from her, you bitch!!”
Naomi Watts – The Ring
The Ring ushered in a whole genre of “creepy little girl” ghost movies, but it’s still the best (and scariest) of the bunch. Most of that has to do with the stakes at play, as the newly haunted Rachel (Naomi Watts) isn’t just fighting for her life… but also trying desperately to prtect her young son Aidan from the ghostly hauntings of deadly Samara. The Ring offers up a double-dose of tough mom action, as Rachel becomes something of a surrogate mother to Samara while investigating her tragic story, only to show the ghost some tough love as she offers her closure on her tragic past.
Nurse Ratched – One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest
The psychiatric nurse was the closest thing to a mother for the residents of the institute, and she was one tough cookie in Jack Nicholson’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
