Damon Talks To The Man Behind The Big Cats At Ringling Brothers
The circus is in town!! Ringling Brothers’ Dragons is performing live at the XL Center in Hartford from today May 10th through May 13th, and I couldn’t be more excited.
I had the chance to chat with Alexander Lacey, the man behind the big cats– Ringling Brothers’ lion tamer! “We’re celebrating the year of the Dragon,” proclaims Lacey about the amazing looking show!
Alexander works with the lions and tigers at the show, and his family has bred them all– and he thinks it’s a great feeling to have such a great friendship with these powerful and dangerous creatures. The work Lacey does is pretty incredible– one of his lions is a 3-year old named Masai that weighs 750 pounds, while he’s only 160, so it’s pretty impossibly for the two of them to ever come to blows!
It’s a great opportunity to see these amazing animals live in person, especially with how few are left in the wild, and that’s something Alexander and I agreed is a pretty serious problem.
On a lighter note, we also talked about the theme of this show– Dragons! And I’d imagine there’s one heck of a poop cleanup after those mythical beasts do their dirty work. Alexander admitted “everybody’s in aisle cleanup.” Hopefully he can save me some after the performances in Hartford– I’ve heard dragon dookie has mystical powers and I have some conditions I’d like to work on!
Ringling Brothers’ Dragons looks like one fantastic show, and I can’t wait to see Alexander and his kitties LIVE this weekend! For more info on their performances here in Hartford now through Sunday, Click Here!
