“The Voice” Recap: Christina Aguilera & Adam Levine Cat Fight Over Tony Lucca
We’re down to the final episode of The Voice and the pressure seems to be getting to the coaches more than the contestants.
Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine bickered all night long, with a boatload of snide remarks and even a strategic wardrobe change. Cee Lo Green got feisty post-show on Twitter…you won’t believe what he said about his fellow coaches!
Each contestant performed 3 times last night. Once solo, once in a duet with their coach, and finally a surprise tribute to their coach.
Carson Daly told AMP/Los Angeles the highlight of the evening for him were the duets.
“I thought one of the best performances of the night was Chris Mann and Christina’s duet together,” Carson said. “That was some other level stuff. I mean that was like professional, I don’t know what that was, that was amazing.”
“Blake and Jermaine Paul…that was fun! ‘Soul Man,’ I thought was a good time,” he added. “Music was solid last night. These four are really, really good.”
Jermaine has turned in one great performance after another, but he hasn’t really had his stand out moment on the show yet. That all ended last night with his emotional rendition of “I Believe I Can Fly.”
“You just sing with so much heart and soul and emotion,” Christina exclaimed. “That song was made for you!”
Cee Lo complimented Jermaine on not only his strong vocals, but also his use of the space. “Staging is a very important part of the total package for me and I like the way that Blake and you collaborated on your look…there’s so much depth in that simplicity of the way that you presented yourself.”
Proud papa Blake Shelton was speechless after watching Jermaine’s solo, “I’ve listened to that song a million times. I don’t think I’ve ever heard it until tonight with you performing it…My job on this show as a coach is to be a coach, but I continue to feel like I learn things from you, Jermaine.”
Chris Mann continued to channel his operatic roots last night while tackling Josh Groban’s “You Raise Me Up.”
Cee Lo gave him the ultimate compliment, “If I ever fall in love again, please sing at my wedding.”
Coach Christina was brought to tears by the performance. “Thank you for raising me up every show,” she said. “You got here by true talent and voice alone and you stood on your own. You stuck to your guns and let your voice just shine.”
For whatever reason, Tony Lucca just seems to rub Christina the wrong way. She certainly made that clear during her critique last night.
The rest of the coaching panel praised Lucca for his unique take on the Jay-Z classic, but Christina felt the lyrics were “derogatory towards women.”
Adam defended the song choice saying, “The ‘b**** ain’t one’ is life getting at you, things bringing you down. You know, we’re not referring to women. We’re referring to everything…it’s called a metaphor.”
Then, Adam dramatically stripped off his button-down to reveal a Team Xtina t-shirt.
“Everyone’s asking me so what’s the deal with Christina and Adam,” Carson recounted this morning on AMP/Los Angeles. “Look, I don’t know. They’re both grown a** adults…I mean, you saw it. It’s live TV, but for me it’s like, ‘There’s one more show! Can’t we just get along for one more day?’ I’m going there in an hour. I’ll be on the set. I have no idea what I’m going to walk into. No idea!”
“Whatever side you fall on, it was a tough scene,” Carson said. “Christina texting during Tony’s performance. Say what you want. The internet this morning, was littered with negative comments towards Christina Aguilera and her sentiment last night on the show. Like it or not, it wasn’t good.
TEAM CEE LO
Juliet has been considered the front-runner ever since her teammate Jamar Rogers was voted off last week, but last night she faced a new challenge: singing with pneumonia.
She pulled it together for a solid performance. Her coach Cee Lo took to Twitter afterwards to praise her efforts, but ended up blasting the other coaches in the process.
“Yo I don’t give a f*** about what u think of me but @JulietSimmsALL sang with pneumonia tonight,” he wrote in a Tweet that has since been removed. “SHE WINS regardless. I refuse to buy votes.”
“If heart& soul doesn’t matter and celebrity friends tweeting for you does then f*** it all @JulietSimmsALL,” Cee Lo added. “I will sign her myself AND I CAN.”
Cee Lo was referring to the other coaches who have reached out to their famous friends for some Twitter support in the Tweets above, which he later deleted.
