Rising electronic producer Skrillex has had quite a year – becoming one of the most sought after DJs on the planet.
Making the switch from front man in emo band From First To Last to DJ-ing under the pseudonym Skrillex looks to have been a smart move for the Los Angeles musician.
Last.fm Trends looks at just how meteoric his rise has been.
Real name Sonny Moore, Skrillex’s rise to fame started with the release of his debut EP My Name Is Skrillex in the summer of 2010. Collaborations with metal band Bring Me The Horizon followed, as did a tour with hugely successful house DJ Deadmau5 – showing just how diverse Skrillex was becoming.
Skrillex’s rise can be seen quite clearly with his total scrobble count edging towards 12,000,000. A debut album has yet to surface however four EP’s have seen great success with Bangarang the most recent, released in December.
His track “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” – the title track from his second EP from late 2010, is by far and away his most popular track amongst listeners. Scrobbled a huge 1,220,135 times, it was his top listened to track last week with 14,323 listeners. In second place was “Kill Everybody” with a significantly less 8,356 listeners.
This time last year Skrillex was managing around 60,000 weekly scrobbles – now he’s boasting around 400,000 weekly scrobbles. A truly remarkable rise has set the DJ up for an incredibly exciting 2012 indeed.
