HE’S SAFE! How The White House-Pardoned Thanksgiving Turkey Spent His Big Night In Washington
How did the luckiest Turkey in America spend the night before his big White House pardon? We’ve got the details!
Joining the ranks of 63 fortunate fowls in years past, The official White House Pardoned Turkey (who remains nameless until his big moment), spent the night in the lap of luxury in Washington’s W Hotel. Until The Turkey [and his alternate, we're guessing in case he gets stage fright?] heads to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, they will live it up in a custom suite. Their digs are complete with unique views of the White House and Monuments. DC’s birds of a feather will also gobble up [Ha! Get it?] “W Munchie Boxes” filled with acorns, berries and corn.
“We are thrilled to have our turkeys hosted by W,” said Richard Huisinga, Chairman of the National Turkey Federation. “As the closest hotel to the White House, it’s wonderful to look over and see the preparations unfold for the biggest day in our turkeys’ lives.” After leaving the W, The National Thanksgiving Turkey [his official title] will join the Obamas in the White House Rose Garden for the official pardoning ceremony.
Once the official business is taken care of, The Bird will arrive in style at George Washington’s House [Mount Vernon] in an 18th-century “motorcade” to a trumpet salute. Once the party’s over he’ll reside at Mount Vernon and will remain on view through January 6. What a lucky break for very happy bird!
