Crackle nail polish; orange eyeshadow; hair feathers. The beauty trends of spring and summer were audacious, bohemian, and sometimes, downright insane.
Luckily, for our fashion sanity, the trends for this fall are way more understated. Models on runways were rocking modern takes on classic looks with bold brows, skin-flattering lip colors, and barely there foundation.
Ready to put down the glitter eyeliner? (We hope so.) Check out this year’s Top 10 Beauty Trends For Fall!
10. Super Eyebrows
For the past few seasons, alien-esque bleached eyebrows were the thing, but this season, bold natural eyebrows Brooke Shields style are back! If you’re brow blessed, save your usual waxing money. Just clean up some strays with tweezers and let your brows go bushy, but refined.
If you’ve thin, light eyebrows, whip out some brow-enhancing powder or a pencil in a color a little darker than your natural hair color.
The best thing about bold eyebrows is that the rest of your make-up can be subtle in order to let your awesome eyebrows take center stage.
9. Masculine Hair Styling
Maybe it was the Lady Gaga/Jo Calderone influence or maybe it was the masculine-feminine genes of the models this season, but “masculine” styled hair was huge on the runways.
Pretty isn’t perfect anymore; what’s really standing out these days is “handsome” female faces. This concept is highlighted by ’50s gel swoops and faux waxed sideburns.
8. Bold Eyeliner
Whether it was the quintessential ’60s cat eye, the ’80s punk-goth look, or the ’50s-swoop, eyeliner was all over the runway this season.
Experiment with liquid liners, kohl crayons, and wet-to-dry powders and figure out what “era” of eyeliner looks best with your eyes. And always go with jet black.
7. Spider Lashes
Another ’60s-style influence, spider lashes are those pulled apart lashes seen on Twiggy back in the day. Sometimes her lashes even had little globules of mascara on them. Go for the modern take like Kim Kardashian above. It’ll be an “eye-opening” experience.
Oh, and the more mascara you can put on your eyes, the better.
6. Navy Nails
Dark blues and navy’s were the trendy nail colors of this season. These dark blues are almost universally flattering, office-appropriate chic, and funky without being too edgy.
5. Teased Hair
Love those teased and tousled tresses in Mad Men or craving some Brigitte Bardot volume? Luckily, teased hair was a runway do for the hair-do of the season. While some designers chose to go full Jackie Onassis, we love the loose locks of the model above. So lion-esque.
4. Get Lippy
All sorts of lip colors were seen on the runway this season, whether they were cherry cola berries, super pale nudes, or bright corals.
Instead of going for a dramatic all-over look, many designers were focusing on dewy skin and juicy lips–much like the model above. The effect is flattering for most and easily maintainable. Find the color that suits you best and start making out!
A smokey eye is always popular, but this season those smokey eyes were overwhelming constructed with subtle, matte metallic. Pair with a barely there lip, bold brows, and a ponytail, for instant glamazon.
2. Red Lips
Red lips are always trendy and no brainer to class up just about any and every look. How to take your little black dress from day to night? Red lipstick. Make your jeans and white t-shirt look less co-ed and more cocktail hour? Red lipstick.
The make-up look that women have done for decades without fail? Red lipstick.
1. No Make-Up
All over the runways this season, we saw models with little or no make-up. As a woman who only wears make-up to “go out,” the focus on natural beauty was highly appreciated. Skin was clean, lips were dewy, but gorgeous “blemishes” shone through.
The no make-up look made models look younger, fresher, and less contrived–a problem that fashion has had since its inception.
