Glee has returned to the small screen for a third season, and we can expect more favorite tracks to be given a high-school makeover by Glee Cast. Radio.com is bringing us an exclusive Glee Radio, featuring Glee tracks old and new.

Today Last.fm Trends is looking at how the Glee Cast are performing via their scrobbles, to see the impact a new season might make.

The graph above (click to enlarge) is for the summer between seasons 2 and 3, with a decline in listeners followed by a levelling-out of popularity over the past couple of months. A new series should see another jump in popularity if past performance is anything to go by.

The most popular Glee Cast track remains “Don’t Stop Believin'” with 1,602,150 scrobbles from 172,944 listeners – it hasn’t quite matched up to Journey’s original, counting 3,623,254 scrobbles from 574,986 listeners, but has no doubt contributed to that song’s rejuvenated popularity.

In the first episode of Season 3, amongst the tracks performed have been Tom Jones’ “It’s Not Unusual” (382,959 scrobbles from 98,225 listeners) and The Go-Go’s “We Got The Beat” (229,893 scrobbles from 70,238 listeners) – we’ll have to wait and see whether these become Glee favorites, or bring the originals to a whole new generation.
