Our friends at MP3.com recently relaunched their site, and to celebrate we’re helping them give away some fantastic songs for free! Today, we’re featuring Ben Harper‘s new single “Rock N’ Roll Is Free”.
GRAMMY-winning singer/songwriter Ben Harper gives rock ‘n’ roll a kick in the pants and a jab in the ribs on the live recording of “Rock N’ Roll Is Free,” the lead single off of his new album Give Till It’s Gone.
“Rock N’ Roll Is Free” is Harper’s first single from his first solo album Give Till It’s Gone. It’s also the first record without his backing band, and it’s his most personal yet.
“I’ve never made a record that was such a timeline,” says Ben Harper of his new album. “It’s a real extension of the last year and half in my life, and all these sounds are inspired by my experiences. It’s as honest a musical statement as I could make.”
Recorded at the Los Angeles studio of rock luminary Jackson Browne, the inspiration behind the single originated after watching a performance of rock-legend Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World” in London last summer.
Like Young’s version, Harper allows in swagger and heavy, no-nonsense riffage. How serious is the music? Let’s just say “rock n’ roll is free if you want it, rock n’ roll is free so come and get it,” as Harper croons on the soul-influenced blues-rock number, “Rock N’ Roll Is Free.”
