“Freedom has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed – else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die.” ~Dwight D. Eisenhower

When we feel “trapped” in the never-ending cycle of making money, taking care of our family, and taking care of ourselves, it’s hard to remember that we actually live in a perpetual state of freedom.

Exercise your ability to be free today, even if it’s in little things. Drive yourself to work a different way. Eat ice cream for breakfast. Call someone and tell them you love them. Yes, even being able to say “I love you” to someone without judgement is a freedom we take for granted.

Life is full of tough decisions, but at least we have the freedom to make those decisions. Next time you are sitting around thinking that your life is cursed, think of all the decisions you made for yourself this week. Did you decide what to wear this morning? Did you decide what you had for lunch?

Some people live in countries or strict environments where they don’t even have the freedom to make these minor decisions. They have only what they have or someone else makes the decision for them. See, your life is probably not all that bad.

Although slavery is abolished in the United States, there are countries where some people are still made to act as slaves, or illegal situations where unfortunate souls are taken and sold as slaves. Remember the fates of these people in your daily life and vow to never be someone who seeks control over another human life, therefore impending on their basic human right for freedom.
