After last Wednesday’s win, American Idol champion Scotty McCreery is gearing up for chart domination. He’s reached number one on iTunes already with his first single “I Love You This Big.”
Today Last.fm Trends is looking into scrobbles for Scotty as well as recent American Idol counterparts, to see how big the love should be.
The American Idol tag on Last.fm has been used by 2,656 people, listing both winners and also-rans. Most-tagged is David Archuleta, counting 5,335,062 plays from 211,508 listeners, despite not winning the competition. Most popular overall is Kelly Clarkson with a huge 33,788,168 plays from 1,458,612 listeners, having far outgrown her Idol origins as the first winner in 2002. As a country artist, it’s likely that McCreery will be looking to follow in Carrie Underwood‘s footsteps to become a respected musician.
McCreery’s own beginnings are looking promising, although Last.fm scrobbles are as yet small with 22,994 plays from 2,222 listeners. His most popular track to date is his Idol performance of “The River”, but as promotion steps up for “I Love You This Big”, it should soon overtake the top spot.
