Are you ready to party tonight? No? That’s just because you don’t have the right Friday afternoon playlist to get you pumped for the three day weekend!

Every Friday afternoon, we put together a nostalgic, dance-tastic playlist of all our favorite bump ‘n grind songs from the past. This week we go back ten years in time to 2001 when artists like [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Janet Jackson[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]P!nk[/lastfm], and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Christina Aguilera [/lastfm]were at the height of their popularity.

10. “Thank You”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Dido[/lastfm]

This mellow, funky slow dance jam from British vocalist, Dido, was all over the radio in 2001 and made its way onto the Billboard Dance charts. Part of Dido’s popularity had to do with [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Eminem[/lastfm] sampling “Thank You” on his song “Stan.”

9. “Turn Off The Light”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Nelly Furtado[/lastfm]

After the bold, brash dance tunes of the ’90s, 2001 showed with dance-chart smash-hits like “Turn Off The Light” that dance songs didn’t have to be about bumpin’ and grindin’. Much like Dido’s “Thank You,” Furtado’s “Turn Off The Light” had a strong dubby vibe with soft drums and scratching.

8. “I’m Real”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jennifer Lopez[/lastfm] featuring [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Ja Rule[/lastfm]

In what would become the beginning of Jennifer Lopez’ many pop-rap collaborations, “I’m Real” is a great “ice cold beers in the afternoon at a block party” kind of dance song. Just a side note: Is it just us or has Jennifer Lopez not aged AT ALL in ten years?

7. “Bootylicious”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Destiny’s Child[/lastfm]

Destiny’s Child had a lot of hits in 2001, but “Bootylicious” was by far our favorite and the feel-good song we still get stuck in our heads while squeezing into a cocktail dress for a night on the town.  Obviously the world was definitely ready for Destiny’s Child’s jelly.

6. “Get Over Yourself”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Eden’s Crush[/lastfm]

Ex-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Pussycat Dolls [/lastfm]leader and upcoming X Factor host [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Nicole Scherzinger[/lastfm]’s first band Eden’s Crush wasn’t exactly a revelation in pop dance music, but their video was so prototypical to some of the cheesy early  ’00s pop, we had to include it on the list.

5. “Hero”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Enrique Iglesias[/lastfm]

Part of the late ’90s/ early ’00s trend of latin pop music, Enrique Iglesias was one of the first successful pop stars to come out of the movement–and he’s still incredibly good at what he does. How many times do you think this song was used as the first song at a wedding?

4. “Southside”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Moby[/lastfm] & [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Gwen Stefani[/lastfm]

This song reminds us of getting stuck in Los Angeles traffic because when it came out people stuck in their cars would blast it–over and over again.

3. “Most Girls”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]P!nk[/lastfm]

“Most girls want a man with the bling bling,” but our lady P!nk has worked that out for herself in the last ten years. Now P!nk has “real love” and a baby on the way. Awwww.

2. “Lady Marmalade”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Christina Aguilera[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lil’ Kim[/lastfm],[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] P!nk[/lastfm], and[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] Mya[/lastfm]

This is quite possibly the girliest song ever written and Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim, P!nk, and Mya’s reworking of the 1975 disco hit by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Labelle [/lastfm]for the film Moulin Rouge made us break out our velvet corsets, red lipstick, and probably single-handedly advanced the burlesque movement.

1. “All For You”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Janet Jackson[/lastfm]

This song gets number one because it mixes quintessential Janet Jackson adorableness with the sexy lyrical movement of the early ’00s. Plus it just makes us want to dance the most.
