Do you feel beautiful today? Well, you should, because you are! Every Monday, we bring to you Mindful Monday–a collection of quotes and inspirational songs for you to meditate upon throughout the week.
This week’s Mindful Monday includes uplifting, positive songs from artists like [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beyonce[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kelly Clarkson[/lastfm], and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kelly Rowland[/lastfm].
Monday, May 16th: “Me, Myself, And I”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beyonce[/lastfm]
“Taking joy in living is a woman’s best cosmetic.” ~Rosalind Russell
If you are single woman, maybe you spend all day thinking about having a boyfriend. Maybe you ponder all the things you can do to yourself (like lose weight, change your haircolor, wear different kinds of clothing, etc) in order to make yourself more attractive to a man.
First of all, forget what everyone else around you says: You don’t need a man to make you happy. Second, your self-worth and what makes you beautiful is not in the physical aspects of you–it comes from within. Any man that is eventually worth it will recognize you for the beauty you are, not the beauty that society thinks you should be.
Tuesday, May 17th: “Strip Me”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Natasha Bedingfield[/lastfm]
“Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart.” ~Kahlil Gibran
If you took off all your outside decoration, stripped yourself of your make-up, your social roles, or your fancy clothes, would you be just as beautiful? Like Natasha Bedingfield sings in her song, “if you stripped away” all the constructed pretense, “what would you find?”
You would find the real you, the you that is important to speak up against adversity. Even though you are only “one voice in a million.” But don’t let anyone take that away from you.
Wednesday, May 18th: “Unprettyl”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]T.L.C[/lastfm]
“Is ‘fat’ really the worst thing a human being can be? Is ‘fat’ worse than ‘vindictive’, ‘jealous’, ‘shallow’, ‘vain’, ‘boring’ or ‘cruel’? Not to me.” ~J.K. Rowling
Really, no one is perfect. Maybe you are overweight, your nose is big, or your skin is spotty. But you have gorgeous, shiny hair, pretty eyes, and most importantly, an infectious smile. No one should ever put you in the position to make you feel “unpretty,” because guess what: You’re not.
Despite what you perceive as flaws, you are beautiful. Maybe not to everyone, but to someone. And that most important someone should be yourself.
Thursday, May 19th: “Shake Them Haters Off”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kelly Rowland[/lastfm]
“Peace, Love, Hope and Confidence are the ingredients to good body image”. ~Dr Vivian Mehan
Haters are a fact of life. You can live in an unrealistic fantasy world where everyone says nice things to you all the time or you can come to the realization that there will always be mean, snarky gossips ridiculing and judging the things you do.
Once you admit that to yourself, you can see those haters for what they truly are: people who are just as insecure as everyone else. View them with detached compassion and don’t fall into their well of pity and self-hatred like they want you to. Wake up in the morning, shake the haters off, and be strong.
Friday, May 20th: “Miss Independent”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kelly Clarkson[/lastfm]
“Amazingly, when I began to accept and love myself unconditionally, everything else in my life began to change as well.” ~Sarah Mariah
I have met beautiful, intelligent and independent women who become fearful, insecure creatures once they start dating a man. They text incessantly, ask jealous questions, become bitter towards their man’s varied activities. I ask myself, “What happened to Miss Independent?”
Being independent doesn’t just mean you can be OK when you are all by yourself. It also means that you can act like a strong individual when you are in a relationship. Would you like if some man treated you with the above disrespect? Never trusted you? Always questioned you and harassed you? Probably not. Channel the feisty, fierce woman you were before and don’t let the anxiety of a relationship distract you from what is most important: Being true to yourself.
