It’s finally the weekend, and you know what that means: It’s time to pour yourself a sparkling beverage, put on your favorite party garb, and dance away the stress of your week.  Glitter and disco ball highly recommended, but not necessary.

Every Friday afternoon, we put together a nostalgic, dance-tastic playlist of all our favorite bump ‘n grind songs from the past. This week we go back in time to 1995 when artists like [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Mariah Carey[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Gloria Estefan[/lastfm], and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]TLC [/lastfm]were at the height of their popularity.

10. “Take Me Higher”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Diana Ross[/lastfm]

Even though this dance song is kind of generic, it was hit single back in the day and, really, Diana Ross can basically do no wrong. In 1995, it was almost two decades after Ross’ heyday and she was still showing up the young pop stars.

9. “Be My Lover”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]La Bouche[/lastfm]

Still considered a dance floor favorite, at the time “Be My Lover” by La Bouche was pumping out of almost every car stereo. We can still remember kids wearing those ridiculous pacifier necklaces doing the “invisible glow stick” dance to this song.

8. “Creep”[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]-TLC[/lastfm]

In 1995, every young girl wanted to grow up and be a member of TLC. If you were the pretty, popular girl, you looked up to Chili. If you were the quiet, studious girl, you felt a kinship to T-Boz. And if you were the wild child, you were definitely Left Eye.

7. “Turn The Beat Around”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Gloria Estefan[/lastfm]

No one could have done a better job remaking Vicki Sue Robinson’s 1976 disco classic “Turn The Beat Around” than Gloria Estefan, the musical godmother of latin pop jams.

6. “Tootsee Roll”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]69 Boyz[/lastfm]

In the early ’90s, songs devoted to dance moves were really popular and teenagers spent their lunch hour on the playground practicing said moves. In 1995, one of the easiest (and most popular) dance moves was the Tootsee Roll, mostly because the lyrics explicitly instructed you on what to do.

5. “Don’t Take It Personal (Just One Of Dem Days)”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Monica[/lastfm]

Turtlenecks with flannels! Vests and news boy caps! Black and white amateur-ish music video! Sassy finger waving! This video had everything a mid-’90s video should have.

4. “This Is How We Do It”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Montell Jordan[/lastfm]

This song never gets old. In fact, we still hear it every summer on the radio, in our exercise classes, or blaring through the speakers and grocery stores.  Montell Jordan wrote a party jam that you could put in a time capsule, listen to a hundred years later, and it would still be how people “did” it.

3. “Here Comes The Hotstepper”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Ini Kamoze[/lastfm]

This reggae-tinged tune combined hip hop, island flair, and scratching. Subsequently, it makes it practically impossible not to let your hips get a little tropical.

2. “100% Pure Love”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Crystal Waters[/lastfm]

Crystal Waters’ “100% Pure Love” was to the ’90s what “YMCA” by the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Village People[/lastfm] was to people tearing up dancefloors in the ’70s. If you didn’t hear it by the end of the night, the DJ was doing his job wrong.

1. “Fantasy”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Mariah Carey[/lastfm]

Only “Fantasy”-era Mariah Carey could make the ’90s fad of rollerblading look sexy instead of awkward.
