Even after the second marriage fiasco of Heather Mills, we still look up to [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Sir Paul McCartney[/lastfm] as one of the greatest harbingers of love, especially after his iconic relationship with first wife Linda McCartney and all his expertly crafted love songs.

Thankfully, love is in the air again for McCartney who is recently engaged to his beautiful girlfriend of four years, Nancy Shevell. Reports say Shevell is well-loved by McCartney’s kids and might just be the second love of his life.

In honor of McCartney’s grand capacity for love, we’ve curated Ten Songs About Love Written By Paul McCartney.

10. “All My Loving”

One of The Beatles’ earliest love songs, Paul McCartney apparently wrote this for his girlfriend at the time.  It was love-sick lyrics like this that made The Beatles immediately popular with the young ladies:

Close your eyes and I’ll kiss you/Tomorrow I’ll miss you/Remember I’ll always be true/And then while I’m away/I’ll write home ev’ry day/And I’ll send all my loving to you

9. “Can’t Buy Me Love”

McCartney might have all the money in the world, but we’ve seen in his relationship with Heather Mills that money can’t buy him love. While his love with Shevell looks very real, we’re guessing McCartney is not very stingy with his diamond rings, no matter what she says:

Say you don’t need no diamond ring and I’ll be satisfied/Tell me that you want the kind of thing that money just can’t buy/I don’t care too much for money, money can’t buy me love

8. “Yesterday”

When McCartney wrote “Yesterday” for the Beatles, we doubt he knew that the bittersweet, melancholy break-up song would be the most-covered song in the entire world. It shows how well McCartney is acquainted with all the different sides of love–even the hard parts:

Yesterday/Love was such an easy game to play/Now I need a place to hide away/Oh, I believe in yesterday.

7. “My Love”

Paul McCartney co-wrote a lot of sappy love songs with his first wife and first true love, Linda McCartney, including this song “My Love” for their group Wings. We are impressed they could write such beautiful love lyrics even while having to look at each other’s mutually awful ’80s haircuts:

Don’t Ever Ask Me Why/I Never Say Goodbye To My Love/It’s Understood/It’s Everywhere With My Love/And My Love Does It Good

6.  “Beware My Love”

“Beware My Love” by Paul McCartney and Wings is sort of the saddest love song we have ever heard. Boy loves girl, girl loves another boy, a boy that is bad news for girl. Boy #1 writes love song of warning. If loving someone so much that you are willing to help them get through loving someone else isn’t real love, we don’t know what is.

Beware, my love/He’ll bowl you over/Beware, my love/Before you’re much older/He’ll sweep you up under his carpet.

5. “Things We Said Today”

As is inevitable of most bands on tour, when Paul McCartney wrote love songs for the Beatles, a lot of then were about being far away from your lover, but trying to remember all the beautiful things they said:

You say you will love me/If I have to go/You’ll be thinking of me/somehow I will know/Someday when I’m lonely wishing you weren’t so far away/Then I will remember/Things we said today

4. “I Will”

It’s said “I Will” was written for Linda McCartney when they were in the honeymoon stages of their relationship. Although, as evidenced by years worth of love songs, every stage of their relationship was the honeymoon stage:

Love you forever and forever/Love you with all my heart/Love you whenever we’re together/Love you when we´re apart.

3. “And I Love Her”

With one of the greatest lyrics we think has ever been put in a love song, in McCartney’s “And I Love Her” he says that his love is so strong for his lady that it’s infectious:

I give her all my love/That’s all I do/And if you saw my love/You’d love her too/I love her

2. “Silly Love Songs”

When this song came out, it was mocked by critics–which we think was the cheeky point McCartney was trying to make. Now “Silly Love Songs” is practically iconic as a song about why to not give up on lyrical romanticism.

You’d think that people would have had enough of silly love songs/But I look around me and I see it isn’t so/Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs/And what’s wrong with that?/I’d like to know, ’cause here I go again/I love you, I love you

1. “Maybe I’m Amazed”

This song always makes us tear up, because we’ve all been there: Totally in love, but hesitant in our own way to express it. Co-written by Linda McCartney, we think she would be proud to hand this song over to Paul’s new lady love, Nancy Shevell as her wedding present from heaven.

Maybe I’m amazed at the way you love me all the time/Maybe I’m afraid of the way I love you/Maybe I’m amazed at the way you pulled me out of time/You hung me on a line/Maybe I’m amazed at the way I really need you
