Oscars 2011: Picking The Best Original Song
Orlando native Mandy Moore will be taking the Oscar stage on Sunday night along with Tangled co-star Zachary Levi to perform I See The Light from the Disney animated film. But will it end up taking the award for Best Original Song at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards? Take a listen to the nominated tunes and tell us what you think.
“I See the Light” from Tangled
Music by Alan Menken; Lyric by Glenn Slater
[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Alan Menken[/lastfm], the man behind Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and so many more, gets back into Oscar contention once more with I See The Light.
“Coming Home” from Country Strong
Music and Lyric by Tom Douglas, Troy Verges and Hillary Lindsey
[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Gwyneth Paltrow[/lastfm]‘s turn as a country singer may not have received the best reviews or any other nominations for Paltrow, but it is getting her on the Oscar stage Sunday night to perform Coming Home.
“If I Rise” from 127 Hours
Music by A.R. Rahman; Lyric by Dido and Rollo Armstrong
You will hear co-lyricist [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Dido[/lastfm] on the soundtrack, but it’s Florence Welch of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Florence and the Machine[/lastfm] who will be performing If I Rise come Oscar time.
“We Belong Together” from Toy Story 3
Music and Lyric by Randy Newman
We Belong Together marks [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Randy Newman[/lastfm]‘s third nomination for a Toy Story film. His only Academy Award so far has been for “If I Didn’t Have You” from Monsters. Inc. Could the third time be the charm? That’s where we’re placing our bets.
We would be remiss without mentioning that we totally agree with Cher and James Franco on the unforgivable absence of the Golden Globe-winning You Haven’t Seen The Last of Me. Shame on you Oscar!
