Director Julien Temple has been given the official green light to make a biopic on the life of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Marvin Gaye[/lastfm]. Previously Temple has made a slew of music documentaries including Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten, Bowie: The Video Collection, Whitney Houston: The Greatest Hits and Luther Vandross: From Luther with Love – The Videos.

Screendaily.com reports the Marvan Gaye movie will center around Midnight Love, Gaye’s last studio album.  Temple has obtained the necessary music rights from EMI.

Spinner reports the film will be shot in Ostend, Belgium where Gaye lived when he left the country due to issues with the IRS.

Marvin Gaye was killed on April 1, 1984 at the age of 44.
