[lastfm]Dan Hicks[/lastfm] is more than just a man – he’s an institution. Up and down each of this country’s fine coasts he is known as an entertainer, a clever songwriter, and someone who’s a darn good time to be around. After a lifetime in the music business, one might think there’s no new territory for Hicks to conquer. But as sure as the sleigh bells are a-ringin’, Hicks is on the verge of becoming a Christmas institution as well. Riding into town just as the year’s first cold snap fell on New York City, [lastfm]Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks[/lastfm] arrived at the studio full of holiday cheer and ready to rock ‘n roll. Their setup includes a fiddle, a stand-up bass, two guitars and two sublimely sweet singers. If you liked what you heard on the two Christmas songs, give Hicks another minute of your time and listen in on his interview. ‘Witty’ and ‘charming’ are both words that would describe [lastfm]Dan Hicks[/lastfm], though neither adjective comes close to describing the twinkle that winks from this man’s eye. We’ll let him explain…

As a special treat for the Street Date readers Hicks performed a non-holiday tune, the toe-tapper he calls “Canned Music.” Check it out.
