The New York Times reported this morning that Casey Affleck has admitted “I’m Not Here,” his new documentary on Joaquin Phoenix (and his public meltdown over that past 18 months) has all been an elaborate work of fiction…

Phoenix shocked everyone with his appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman in February of 2009, when he showed up with a grizzly beard and sunglasses, claiming in an apparent drug-addled haze that he was quitting acting to start a career as a rapper.

Phoenix’s best friend (and Ben’s younger brother) Casey Affleck released his feature length doc on Phoenix last Friday, and just a week later has come public to end the debate, stating that the whole thing was a hoax.

Sure, it may be nice to know that Joaquin isn’t crazy, but this is devastating news for those of us who wanted to hear his rap record.
