Last.fm Trends: Did Apple Decide Coldplay’s Top Track?
Coldplay‘s Chris Martin performed new material for Apple users on Wednesday, debuting “Wedding Bells” beside Apple founder Steve Jobs. But Martin also admitted that a lot of the band’s recent popularity had come from the company’s use of “Viva La Vida” in an ad.
Last.fm Trends wanted to dig a little deeper, and they bring you the Top Ten Coldplay tracks among listeners around the world to see if Apple might have made a difference.
One of the strangest things about Coldplay’s Top Ten is just how mixed it is. Taking a clutch of material from throughout their history it’s not just Viva La Vida on show, but Parachutes and A Rush Of Blood To The Head too. Even X+Y is well-represented.
For a band with 164,759,767 scrobbles – that’s plays by Last.fm listeners – from 3,092,825 listeners to date it’s not surprising that their top tracks are pulling in more 3,000,000 scrobbles across the board.
Sure enough though, at number one by quite a long way it’s “Viva La Vida”. A worldwide smash, the song has managed some 8,220,874 scrobbles, an average of ten plays for every single listener the track has picked up.
