Coming in at number 7 on Radio.com’s Green Artist Countdown are [lastfm]Maroon 5[/lastfm]. Among the most active bands on the countdown, [lastfm]Maroon 5[/lastfm] has been finding ways to help the planet and those around them for years. When they aren’t running a celebrity auction for Haiti, or blogging about the environmental movement; they’re teaming up with the Green Music Group to spread the word.
Read on to see what issues the band’s been up on, listen to Maroon 5 radio on Last.fm, and continue the countdown to Earth Day.
Recently, the band’s been wrapping up mixing their new album, and keeping fans up to date on their blog. Writing back in March:
“almost done with the mixing of the new album… it’s down the the wire… the final yards… the last moments of play… adrenaline is racing… the end is in sight… spirits are high…
They weren’t kidding, check out this pretty sweet and topically relevant video from the Story of Stuff Project
On their Green Music Group bio it reads: In 2006, Maroon 5 was honored at the Environmental Media Awards; given their commitment to environmental action, this honor came as no surprise. For the past three years Maroon 5 has been touring green with the environmental non-profit Reverb, inspiring millions of fans at shows and online. To date, they’ve hosted more than 60 non-profit organizations in Reverb’s Eco-Village, fueled their buses with 18,000 gallons of biodiesel, reduced the carbon footprint of their tours, and have offset hundreds of thousands of pounds of CO2. Catch a video of their environmental work on tour.
Particularly near and dear to the band is the issue of energy use, and you can often spot Maroon 5 keyboardist Jesse Carmichael talking with unassuming fans before concerts about the benefits of solar power. In teaming up with non-profit movements like Vote Solar, Maroon 5 has given a positive and persuasive voice to personal energy reduction and alternative energy sources.
Check out the band getting in on the act.
The Earth Day Green Artist countdown continues tomorrow. We’re counting down the 10 greenest artists of the year, and capping it off with a live audio stream of the Earthday Birthday concert in Atlanta on Sunday, April 25th; featuring [lastfm]Ben Harper and Relentless 7[/lastfm].
