The Earth Day Green Artist Countdown: #8 – Linkin Park
Coming in at number eight on Radio.com’s Earth Day Green Artist Countdown are the world-minded rockers, [lastfm]Linkin Park[/lastfm]. Most recently Mike Shinoda and the band have delved into new frontiers with their iPhone game, Linkin Park 8-bit Rebellion. Mike’s also guested on the upcoming Cypress Hill album, “Rise Up.”
Linkin Park graces our countdown for an entirely different, but equally cool/impressive reason; their charity Music for Relief. Founded in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, it’s evolved into a machine of do-good spirit, planting over 810,000 trees and raising over $3 million dollars for it’s efforts to aid victims of natural disasters.

As if starting an entire organization and keeping it going strong for the past 5 years wasn’t enough, the band is continuing its efforts with new partners in the industry. Along with a fledgling group of artists, Linking Park is a founding member of Reverb’s Green Music Group, announced this February. The group’s goals are to promote environmental action across industry, musicians, and fans alike.

“In 2005, members of Linkin Park founded Music For Relief, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing aid to victims of natural disasters, helping to reduce global warming and raising awareness about the effect climate change is having on the frequency and intensity of such disasters. Originally created to benefit the victims of the 2004 South Asia tsunami, MFR continues to give aid to those affected by hurricanes, cyclones, wildfires and other natural catastrophes around the globe.” – Greenmusicgroup.org
